Sensory Integration is the name of a method to help our children make up for their sensory deficits. The same experience that the environment of modern society does not give them. Children do not correctly interpret tactile, visual, auditory, olfactory, taste and motor information, which leads to problems of behavior, learning, speech development, communication, muscle tone and coordination.
Until about age 7, a child’s brain primarily works as a sensory information processing device. This means that he perceives the surrounding world, objects and draws conclusions about them, based directly on sensations. Young children do not have developed abstract thinking and do not operate with abstract concepts. They are mainly engaged in perceiving things and moving the body according to their sensations. Their adaptive responses are more often muscular or motor in nature, so the first seven years of life are called the period of sensorimotor development.
So, children in violation of the processing of auditory information:
Violations of the visual sensory system can be said when the child does not like to walk on stairs, step over obstacles, look into the eyes, prefers half-darkness or darkness, is capricious in bright light, strains, looking at others and objects.
In case of violation of tactile perception:
Motor, vestibular dysfunctions: with these types of disorders, the child may be clumsy, awkward movements, avoid sports fields, slides, ball games, does not master cycling, does not climb crossbars, jumps poorly, risks dangerously in mobile games, tries different types of movements and tries to hold on, grasp everything, because he feels unstable. And the main difference between children with such disorders—This is the difficulty of concentrating, especially if the environment is saturated with those stimuli to which they are particularly sensitive. Children tend to change games, interests, type of activity very, very quickly, at the same time differ in anxiety, there are emotions.—excessive emotional reactions (sharp whims, tantrums, crying, frequent laughter, aggressive behavior, etc.).
Recommended for all children with delayed psycho-emotional development, children with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), especially with ASD (autism spectrum disorder), who often have sensory processing disorders. Regular SI classes are necessary for patients with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, as well as children with visual and hearing impairment. In our center, experienced professionals will help your child fill in the missing pieces of such an important and necessary sensory experience.
