With routine EEG, as with EEG with sleep capture, bioelectric activity of the brain is recorded using special electrodes that are superimposed on the surface of the head in accordance with the international scheme 10-20. As an electrode system, an elastic cap with built-in electrodes is used. However, the duration of this study is only 20-30 minutes! Diagnosis is carried out in a state of relaxed wakefulness–The patient sits in a comfortable chair with his eyes closed.
To increase the possibility of detecting epileptiform activity, various functional tests are carried out–with opening and closing the eyes, with photostimulation flashing light of various frequencies, with hyperventilation (deep breathing for 3-5 minutes). If necessary, tests with motor and intellectual load are carried out.
Then, when analyzing the EEG record, the results obtained are compared with the age norm. In case of detection of pathological changes, a conclusion is given about their severity and nature.–permanent or transient, local or generalized, functional or epileptiform.
