During the periods of the Unified State Exam (USE) and the Basic State Exam (OGE), the number of reports of suicide among teenagers traditionally increases, and anxiety-depressive states intensify. Psychologists note: children, unable to withstand emotional pressure, try to solve the painful issue in a radically youthful way. Therefore, during this time, especially in case of failure, parents need to pay maximum attention to their children.
How to support a child if the exam is failed
- Remind them that there are no dead-end situations. Any exam can be retaken. This is not the end of the world, but just a stage.
- Allow them to experience emotions. Do not forbid crying, getting angry, or speaking out. Let them exhale. And be sure to praise them for their efforts and preparation, even if the result did not meet expectations.
- Analyze together. Discuss what could have been done differently, but without judgment.
- Stay calm. Your sincere, not feigned, calmness is the best anchor for a child. If you yourself escalate anxiety, they will sense it.
- Do not leave them alone. If teachers or classmates notice that the child is in despair or in an affective state, this is a signal to immediately involve the parents.
- Contact specialists. If necessary — a psychologist, and if the condition is severe, then a psychiatrist. This is not shameful, it is responsible.

Grades are not worth a life. Support, acceptance, and understanding are what truly matter during this period.
