Cognitive functions are the basic "tools" of the brain that help a child learn, communicate, and adapt in society. Success in school and everyday life depends on how well they are formed.
Attention
- Up to 3 years — involuntary attention predominates in a child. They can fix their gaze on bright objects or things that make sounds.
- At 5–6 years — concentration and focus on small details and requests increase. Attention becomes voluntary — that is, the child already makes an effort to concentrate.
- At 9–10 years — attention becomes more stable, and switching ability improves. The child can already hold several tasks and switch between them.
Memory
- Up to 3 years — involuntary memorization predominates. The child remembers what evoked emotions or was vivid.
- At 5–7 years — memory becomes purposeful and voluntary. The child can remember information at an adult's request.
- From 7 years — active growth of memory capacity and quality of reproduction begins.
