Starting kindergarten is an important stage for the whole family. During this period, support for speech development becomes especially relevant: the child will need to communicate with teachers, find common ground with peers, and express their wishes and experiences. Speech therapy tips will help you gently go through adaptation and strengthen speech skills.
Creating a favorable speech environment
- Speak clearly and correctly. Avoid "baby talk" and imitating childish pronunciation, as this deprives the child of the opportunity to hear and remember correct speech.
- Expand vocabulary. Name objects, describe actions, and comment on what is happening. Say daily routines out loud: "We wash our hands," "We put on our jacket," "It's time for breakfast."
- Read and discuss. Daily reading of fairy tales and poems, and looking at illustrations, enriches speech. After reading, ask questions about the plot, ask them to retell the story or describe the characters.
- Encourage questions. Answer all of your child's questions, even if there are many. This stimulates curiosity and a desire to communicate.
- Create situations for communication. For example, place a toy in a visible but inaccessible place so that the child asks for it themselves. Or offer a choice: "Will you drink tea from the blue cup or the red one?"
