How to keep a child busy during the holidays so that the brain rests and develops. Summer is a time when you don’t have to do homework, but that doesn’t mean the brain should “switch off”. Proper rest is a change of activity, not its absence.
Here is what our neuropsychologist recommends:
Walks, running, cycling, outdoor games, contact with nature — swimming, playing in the sand, going to the forest for mushrooms and berries. All this is not just fun, but vital for the development of the nervous system. The body receives a variety of sensations that the brain processes and structures.
When a child invents the rules themselves, builds a den or simply makes sand pies, they develop “executive functions”: planning, forecasting, problem solving. This trains the brain no worse than solving sums, but without stress.
Summer is ideal for live communication with friends and relatives. It develops emotional intelligence, teaches negotiation, empathy and expressing emotions. No gadget can give this.
The main principle: alternate activity and rest, noisy games and quiet. The child should choose what to do for at least part of the day.
